Firsts

Title’s kinda stolen from my new pastor’s blog. ;)

Last month or so I finally had the chance to cross off 2 items on The List. Actually, more like 1.5 (You’ll understand why.). It’s a number of ‘firsts’ for me.

On 23rd March, I took short trip down to Singapore to fulfill a long time dream - Watch Coldplay! It’s funny to see them live now, considering I’ve been listening to them since secondary school.

It was pretty darn amazing - They started off with ‘Life in Technicolor (i)’, and ended with ‘Life in Technicolor (ii)’.

Then when they played ‘Yellow’, these bunch of giant yellow balloons got thrown out to the audience, and when burst, out came yellow colored confetti.

They moved over to the end of the left runway, played a medley of ‘God Put A Smile On Your Face’ and ‘Talk’ on a drum machine (Remix kinda feel.)

Later on, they literally got off the stage, went to the center-right side of the stadium, got on a podium, and played an acoustic set right there and then. Drummer Will Champion can sing!

Finally, for the encore, the whole stadium was singing ‘Oo-oh, oh oh’ from ‘Viva la Vida’, where they duly came on to play ‘The Scientist’ & ‘Life in Technicolor (ii)’.

Overall, they played nearly all of ‘Viva la Vida’, and all their famous hits. No other pics for you guys - The memories are just for me! ;)

Prior to 5th April, I got a call from NZX quoting a sweet deal for some F1 tickets. Why not? I’m all for it.

Come 5th April, it’s like Murphy’s Law decided to hit us in its full glory.

There was the traffic jam, and when we arrived, it looked like this:

Then I realized my tickets were with NZX, whose car got stuck in the mud while parking, and needed passerbys to help pull it out.

Then it started pouring like nobody’s business, and we got really drenched.

By the time we got in, it was almost 5.30pm, when the race started at 5pm. The track looked like this:

And to top it all off, the race was stopped temporarily, and later announced that it won’t be restarted!

Yeah, disappointment is a bunch of guys with a bunch of F1 tickets, and a bunch of wet clothes. :|

It was disappointing of course, knowing we saw nuts, plus Ferrari ended up with no points at all.

The next time I go, I’ll sit on the grass. And remember to:

1. Bring an umbrella/poncho
2. Bring earplugs
3. Take your tickets early
4. Go there friggin’ early

How contrasting 2 major events that I attended (or tried to attend) ended up. Guess life has its funny way of saying “Screw you! You’re not watching F1 today!”

Will

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

A will is something people write in preparation for their death; to decide who to give what to.

And so here’s my mini will (with whatever I have). Changes might occur though, as life goes on, and as I make more friends (or lose them), or discover more family members I didn’t know I had. :)

My savings: My family? Only they have access to my bank accounts, investments, insurance whatsoever.

My car: Someone who needs it. Joash perhaps?

The keyboard (Ingrid): Foursquare Gospel Church. They need a keyboard (for now). If not, maybe Charis would like to take care of her?

The guitar (Jane): Break her during a Coldplay gig. She’s meant to leave this world in the biggest, grandest most majestic way possible. I also believe she can’t survive alone in this world without me.

The bass (Katerina): Sam. He always wanted a cheap good bass. Here you go!

My camera: PG165. At least they would have an official camera now.

The CD collection: This has to go to Michelle. You’re one of the few people I know who likes Radiohead, Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys, & many other weird stuff all at the same time (Including that I Like You Better When You’re ***** song - Thanks for the intro.)

Starscream G1 toy: This is for you holmes. Even though you ditched me by getting hitched, I’m still giving you this so you can simulate battles with your Optimus Prime.

Bumblebee G1 toy: Macha (VJ), this is for you mate. I’m reminded of your Volkswagen everytime I see it.

Predator figurine: NZX, I’m giving this to you because he reminds me of you: Big, strong, & ugly. ;)

R2-D2 cookie jar: Audrey & Mel: If I haven’t given you a house warming gift then, this will be it. :) Eat more, girls.

My clothes: This is to be distributed evenly to all final year students that I know of. Believe me - You’ll save a chunk when you start work. One lucky person will even get my cuff links!

That’ it - THAT really is all that I have.

There’s only 2 more items whom I don’t know who to delegate to:
Optimus Prime Movie toy: This is in mint condition. I’ve kept the box too!

My books: This is wide - From John Grisham, to various economic books, and even my all time favorite, Catch-22. Wonder who will take them.

Now, that’s really all that I have. Easy-peasy! No tough delegation choices needed. ;)

Break

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Hi kids,

Today I’m gonna tell you a story so amazing it’ll have you in stitches by the end I’m done with it. I know it had some of my friends laughing like a madman.

I’m gonna tell you a story about how I completed no. 34 of The List - Get myself chased by the police.

One Saturday morning I was down in Melaka, and decided to drop by NZX’s place, then go off for breakfast. He decided to take PG165 - Without helmets.

His comment?

“This is Malaysia!”

After breakfast, we decided to head back to his apartment. That’s when it all started.

NZX’s 1st reaction?

“Oh s***!”

And he took a quick left turn. And another turn. And another turn.

Basically, he made sharp turns at every single junction available. The reason simply being the police were on our trail! And they have started to sound the horn! (No sirens though. Darn!)

This went on until NZX made a move straight out of Hollywood. He turned into a lane where there was enough space for the bike, but not the police car, due to another car blocking the way.

As if that wasn’t enough, we took another turn into some back lane of a row of houses where the road was covered with grass, bumps & broken concrete. To the extent the weight of the bike with both of us on it couldn’t get over a slab of concrete.

We got off the bike and started running, with NZX trying hard to push the bike. It’s becoming like Prison Break Season 2!

We decided to stop running, take a breather, and continue on the journey back to the apartment. Took to the streets, made sure no cops were around, and on our way we went.

We were free! Or so we thought.

We’re only less than 1 minute , & 1 junction away from ‘home’! We made that last turn, lo & behold! The SAME police car was there.

This time we stopped, and the police came over to us & asked:

“Mengapa tadi lari?”

The rest, as they say, was history.

And the moral of the story? You can run, but you can’t hide.

I hope the pictures & my mediocre explanation managed to tickle your neural senses.

And that’s how I managed to cross no. 34 off The List. :)

34. Get myself chased by the police

Will explain about that in the next post. ;)

Bucket

Monday, September 1st, 2008

I’ve been a bad, bad blogger.

Too much time has been spent on work, and not other more important stuff: Life.

So, I took some time off on a Sunday evening to watch a movie I’ve been wanting to catch for awhile.

The Bucket List

It’s a sappy movie, yet at the same time, funny.

Most importantly, it goes to show no one is ever too old to do what he/she wants to do with his/her life.

That said, why do it only when we know our time is up? Why not do it when we’re young?

Inspired by the movie, and of course, some good friend (you know who you are ;)), I’m setting out to create a list of 50 things to do before I die.

The list should NOT include items that I have already done (eg. Climbing Mount Kinabalu), or stuff that are just plain impossible (eg. Shag a supermodel)

And what’s a journey without any of your friends/family in it?

That is why I want you, the reader, to be part of my bucket list, by actually giving some suggestions. ALL comments will be taken into account, and of course after a fair amount of filtering, I will publish them here.

This is not a joke - I’m pretty serious about this. And this time, I’m gonna do my best to carry it out, ‘cos the last time I made a list, I’ve terribly abandoned it in search of things of lesser value. :(

Appreciate the help, and hopefully, the list will be up sooner than later. :)
