Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Here’s a ‘lil blog plug for Beat The System, where Lenard plays bass in.

“my “indian” band is in discovery stage @ cineleisure this 2nd august, and there’s an online portion to the competition. the winner is the band with the highest number of votes online. so yes, beat the system needs you! if you havent heard any of our tracks yet, you can search us on facebook at “beathesystem” or just go to myspace.com/beathesystemband to hear our songs. here’s the link for voting

http://vote.mynightwish.net/

all you need to do is register for an account, click on the link in the verification email, login, and vote for beathesystem. pls remember to fill up 10 stars aiight? =]

do note that the website brings u to the next band’s page after u have voted, so don’t keep voting 10 stars, or else you would’ve voted for all the bands eventually :P

its a 1-registration-1-vote thing, but they also track your IP, so if u wish to do multiple votes, u can vote once at ur office, once at home, once at starbucks, once at a cybercafe, etc =D

also if u have a blog, pls help us by blogging about this! all help is very much appreciated by us at beathesystem. we love you! =]”

So help them out!

Campus

I just received a thick notebook entitled “Student Journal” from Michelle a few weeks ago.

It’s basically a book filled with articles, tips, & space (to write), to help student’s get through their varsity days. You kids get it easy nowadays!

And as I was flipping through, I see some quotes that are still very much relevant to anyone who’s breathing today.

“Don’t be afraid to dream. Only dreamers see dreams come true.”

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry.”

“Be yourself. Never be a second-best version of someone else”

Then, there’s this section which talks about going further, and living beyond our limitations. It also suggested some things to try out. I’m just looking through it and crossing off whatever I’ve never done.

1. Camping - Hmm, didn’t exactly do this.
2. Road trip - Unplanned? Yeah! If not mistaken, quite a few times actually.
3. Tour (insert town you’re studying in) - Every single year. :)
4. Go for an Orang Asli mission trip - Nope, but I did go for a Kadazan one in Kudat.
5. Go kart - In Melaka? Hmm.
6. Wall(Rock) climbing - Hmm. (Some stuff are kinda hard to get in Melaka. What about skateboarding? :D)
7. Write - What you’re reading now is practically a product of, well, writing.
8. Start a band - Nope, but I did join one. And still playing in one.
9. Dance - :|
10. Theatre - I took theatre as a subject for co-curriculum. I was even the producer for our final play.
11. Watch foreign films - DVD counts?
12. Starlight cinema - Hmm.

Not too bad, I’ll say. :)

My 2 cents’ worth? Go do something extraordinary during your uni life. Chances like these don’t come often. So what if you ended up a ‘lil poorer by the end of the month? As I always say, it’s the experience that counts.

Happy

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Got this form the newspapers today:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Denmark, with its democracy, social equality and peaceful atmosphere, is the happiest country in the world, researchers said on Monday.

Zimbabwe, torn by political and social strife, is the least happy, while the world’s richest nation, the United States, ranks 16th.

Overall, the world is getting happier, according to the U.S. government-funded World Values Survey, done regularly by a global network of social scientists.

It found increased happiness from 1981 to 2007 in 45 of 52 countries analyzed.
