Update

Monday, October 27th, 2008

Life is:

Taking a journey into the unknown, only for it to turn out to be so much better than expected.

It is also about having Ikan Bakar in a foreign land, with a combination of old & new found friends outside a church building in the chilly weather.

And of course, life is about jumping 1st, then fearing later. Especially if ‘later’ is a pool of water from the mountains with temperatures as cold as water you have left in the fridge for quite awhile. (Wonder if that’s the best form of expression.)

Jump 1st, fear later - Something all of us need a little of. :)

Finally, I’ve edited the Introduction page. Again.

Gratis

Gratis means free, and free because I’m updating this blog post all the way from Indonesia, free! Courtesy of a certain telecommunications giant. ;)

It’s spectacular!

I’ll see you guys when I get back.

As I’m typing this, I am about 18 hours away from leaving to Medan, then to Berastagi for about 2 days. I heard the weather there is even colder than Cameron Highlands. Fantastic piece of news!

After visiting some churches there, we’ll be heading off to Parapat, which is the transit point to Lake Toba, then the very next day head to Pematangsiantar. That would be the end of the mission trip.

It’s significant for me because:
i. This is gonna be my 1st mission trip since 2006, where we went to Kudat.
ii. It’s a church mission trip. Most of my previous trips were with CFs.
iii. It’s to a country I haven’t before. Slowly, the bucket list is decreasing. :)

After all that, I’ll be turning back to Lake Toba for a short break. Nothing’s been planned yet, no hotel’s been booked, & no itinerary has been created. ;)

So before I go, here’s a little question which Pastor Sivin Kit asked me few months ago at the Read while Waiting Project:

“So, what’s been on your minds recently?”

Hopefully this will keep you people occupied while I’m away - I’m genuinely curious what’s on your minds!

Do check back - I might try to actually update from Indonesia!

Life

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

After being on this, and working with a group of awesome people & campers, there’s always a double meaning to every PCS (Post Camp Syndrome).

You have a sense of relief that camp’s over, yet at the same time, a sense of nostalgia that it has actually ended so friggin’ fast.

And you wonder, what is life? And what do I do to get a LCE (Life Changing Experience)?

1 The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:

2 “Meaningless! Meaningless!”
says the Teacher.
“Utterly meaningless!
Everything is meaningless.”

3 What does man gain from all his labor
at which he toils under the sun?

4 Generations come and generations go,
but the earth remains forever.

5 The sun rises and the sun sets,
and hurries back to where it rises.

6 The wind blows to the south
and turns to the north;
round and round it goes,
ever returning on its course.

7 All streams flow into the sea,
yet the sea is never full.
To the place the streams come from,
there they return again.

8 All things are wearisome,
more than one can say.
The eye never has enough of seeing,
nor the ear its fill of hearing.

9 What has been will be again,
what has been done will be done again;
there is nothing new under the sun.

10 Is there anything of which one can say,
“Look! This is something new”?
It was here already, long ago;
it was here before our time.

11 There is no remembrance of men of old,
and even those who are yet to come
will not be remembered
by those who follow.

Ecclesiastes 1: 1-11

I’d like some interaction - On LIFE.

Complete this: Life is…

It could be: Life is about having ice cream during winter, with no one telling you that it’s crazy.

Just an example.

So, what do you think? (Comments are most welcomed.)

I thought this was pretty cute (Although lots of what’s written isn’t true - She gave me too much credit.)

And here’s a little cliché that most people do, and still don’t find it cliché.

24 by Switchfoot

Twenty four oceans
Twenty four skies
Twenty four failures
Twenty four tries
Twenty four finds me
In twenty-fourth place
Twenty four drop outs
At the end of the day
Life is not what I thought it was
Twenty four hours ago

Still I’m singing Spirit take me up in arms with You
And I’m not who I thought I was twenty four hours ago
Still I’m singing Spirit take me up in arms with You

Twenty four reasons to admit that I’m wrong
With all my excuses still twenty four strong

See I’m not copping out not copping out not copping out
When You’re raising the dead in me
Oh, oh I am the second man
Oh, oh I am the second man now
Oh, oh I am the second man now

And You’re raising these twenty four voices
With twenty four hearts
With all of my symphonies
In twenty four parts
But I wan to be one today
Centered and true

I’m singing Spirit take me up in arms with You
You’re raising the dead in me
Oh, oh I am the second man
Oh, oh I am the second man now
Oh, oh I am the second man now
And You’re raising the dead in me

I want to see miracles, see the world change
Wrestled the angel, for more than a name
For more than a feeling
For more than a cause
I’m singing Spirit take me up in arms with You
And You’re raising the dead in me
Twenty four voices
With twenty four hearts
With all of my symphonies
In twenty four parts.
I’m not copping out. Not copping out. Not copping out

Thanks. :)
